If that's a literary tag-team you wanted to see then check out Scott Nicholson's latest novella "Fangs in Vain." Nicholson crafted a streamlined tale that could easily be the subject of the CW's next breakout program.
In the novella newly-winged angel Sabrina Vickers and her vampire paramour are tasked with preventing the Gog and Magog from invading the natural world. In addition to preventing an apocalypse, Sabrina is also hoping to redeem the fallen Luke, although he does not believe himself capable of redemption.
Set in the historic town of Beaufort, N.C., the two supernatural beings are keeping their eyes peeled for the ancient evil. Of course that ancient evil rears its head during a romantic outing on a barrier island. Sabrina, who is still learning what it means to be an angel, must fight to prevent the summoning of the Gog and protect a vampire who has been pierced by wood from a church -- deadly to a vampire.
One of the smaller plot points that Nicholson handles so well is Sabrina's struggles with her new angelic abilities, such as trying to figure out how to use her wings to fly, and her relationship with both the corporal world and the heavenly.
Although tinged with darkness of supernatural evil, Nicholson's novella is a fun read. As stated it's a streamlined story with only a few characters and a fairly straightforward plot. It's definitely worth the small price of $1.99.
"Fangs in Vain" is the first installment of a planned Sabrina Vickers series.
